A friend of mine recently told me that he can’t handle a Joe Biden speech — it’s literally painful to watch. They’re all like that for me. I thought about it for a minute and realized that the last presidential speech I can remember watching was President George W. Bush’s post 9/11 State of the Union Address. That’s more than two decades ago.
I quit listening to Bush when I realized that the whole Iraq deal was a scaffold of hubris, confirmation bias and outright bullshit. I haven’t listened to more than a passing minute of presidential speech since — across four administrations. I don’t guess I’ve missed much.
This line of thinking led me to recognize that I haven’t watched a single NFL game this season. I have no idea who is in or out of the playoffs, and I can’t muster any interest.
I didn’t intentionally set out to boycott either presidential bloviation or professional sportification. My wife would quote Taylor Swift here:
I forgot that you existed
It isn’t love, it isn’t hate
It’s just indifference
Matthew says
It’s not indifference I have for Biden. It’s frustration.
I was never a big fan of watching sports, frankly. Thing is it used to be something that united the whole country (barring guys like me.) It also I think provided catharsis for a lot of people. Now that it has gotten political it becomes something else to fight over.
People used to complain about things diverting from “the real issues.” Now, I’m beginning that diversion is very necessary for the human mind. Now that everything is political, we getting less of that.

Here, here!! Couldn’t agree more. I can’t say I’ve seen a complete sports game since the 90s. Might have been the first or second baseball strike when I lost all respect for the genre. Can’t recall that either. Politics are below that… I find myself watching YouTube homesteaders explain the finer skills of an adze or a homemade beehive. More depth of character in those folks.
Yep.
On the one hand, indifference probably allowed the government to become the current reality t.v. show it is.
On the other hand, indifference is about the only way now to tolerate the circus it is.
It’s an ugly conundrum.

I am not indifferent– to the current dangerous and unbelievably sad state of our Republic due to the corrupt and inept antics of Biden and his craven grifter crew. I am saddened and horrified.
If you dare to watch Biden unfiltered for 10 min.‘s it will put you off your lumpia- it makes Trump look like a stable genius.
In less than a year the Democrats have kicked the legs out from under the U.S.
81 million people voted for Biden and got what they wanted in spades…with more to come.
How bad will it get?? I’m thinking 1917 Russia, 1949 China, 1975 Laos bad
Hope to Hell I am wrong.
Jim P says
I’m not seeing shock of Russia, China or Laos.
I’m seeing the dying malaise of Venezuela fostered by historically ignorant and comfort driven 1st world government breast feeders. Coupled with a post 60s patriotic public school class that totally missed the trends.
I do see the riots, fires and technoligarch abuses coming hard if Nov 2022 and 2024 goes red. All driven by leftists.
Ugly Hombre says
I hope you are more right than me, though the parallel’s to the take over tactics and methods of the original Bolsheviks, the Chicom’s, the Pathet Lao, and the Kymer Rouge are pretty evident in 2021/22- Infiltration of institutions, corruption of government, destruction of the economy, inflation, shortages of goods, destruction of history, .class and racial warfare, terror against political opponents, Etc. And I hope you are wrong and BLM, Antifa, etc don’t repeat the destruction they inflicted on the country in 2020.
It was interesting to see the New Democrats and their media, deep state and big tech henchmen use 2016 Trump as a kind of 1984 Goldstein to whip up insane and rabid hate.
The deep dishonesty and the destruction inflicted on the country by the New Democrats is now impossible to hide so the American people may wake up.
We can only hope.
